Writers
Block Contest
Sometimes a contest is just
what's need to get the pen (or keyboard) moving.
So here is the August 2008
contest from The Writers Block Solution:
Please note: this is
not a typical writing contest. Yes, there is a theme, but since
the idea is to move you along in writing your novel or screenplay,
what you write should be something that could go into the longer
story in some form (although it doesn't have to). It could even
end up being a short story involving one of your characters that you
could use to generate interest in your novel. Or parts of it
could be incorporated into your current story.
1. Pick one of the characters
in the story you are currently working on (even if it's just in your head).
2. Figure out what their
defining moment is. If you don't know what that is, you can
read my blog post about that here: _____
3. Write the story of that
defining moment. It can be about when it is happening, or them
realizing it later as an adult, or something else entirely - it's
completely up to you.
The best will be posted on
the website with a link to your website, so you will be asked to
release first internet/electronic rights. At some point, we
would like to publish the best stories in an anthology, so you may be
asked to release first North American serial rights at a later date. |
