There are a lot of books on the market talking about what causes
Writer's Block. They talk mostly about fear - fear of failure,
fear of success, fear of criticism, fear of &ldots; (fill in the
blank). And one of those may apply to you.
But the truth is, it really doesn't matter what causes
it. Because even if you know why you have Writer's Block or at
least have an idea why, that still doesn't get you past
the problem.
Understanding does not get
you writing!
I'd be full of great ideas for the book or story I was working on and
the moment I sat down at my keyboard, they would all vanish like a
soap bubble. It made me crazy.
Occasionally, I was able to write and once I got started, I was able
to keep going and get a lot written. But, too often I went
blank the second I sat down in front of the computer. Plus,
there were those special occasions when I'd hit a snag and my Muse
would flee like a mouse in a houseful of cats.
I tried everything I could think of. But I was still blocked
more often than not. So I read everything I could get my hands
on to figure out why I just couldn't get started. I spent hours
reading about it. And, while I got some insight into why I was
having the problem, it certainly didn't make Writer's Block go away.
After banging my head against my keyboard for years as I wrote in
fits and starts, I finally discovered what got me writing every
single time I sat down at the keyboard. I stopped experiencing
Writer's Block.
Because it didn't matter why I had Writer's Block.
I no longer have to deal with what
caused it and neither do you.
The answer is actually very simple.
WHAT MATTERS IS GETTING STARTED
After that, the next hardest thing is keeping going when you run into
resistance (blocks, you don't know what comes next, you're not sure
what to do next, yadda yadda yadda.) You know the drill.
If you're reading this, you know it only too well.
Well, that's where this workbook comes in. I finally figured
out how to get writing every time I sat down. Each and every
time I made huge progress on my current project. And, as
a bonus, my writing actually got better and I started having a heck
of a lot more fun.
The primary purpose of this workbook is to give you tools to get you
started, keep you writing and help you get your book or screenplay written.
Think of me as Dr. Phil's sister. If you're serious about being
a writer, then this is where you'll get the kick in the behind, no
nonsence, "get real" approach to help you get your story written.
